2012 CENTRAL MUSIC FESTIVAL TALENT CONTEST
Submissions Accepted from February 1 to March 2
About You
We are looking for Central Alberta musicians who write their own songs and perform them live.
The Contest
For this contest, Central Alberta is defined as the geographical area extending from the BC to SK borders, bounded on the north and including the city of Wetaskiwin, bounded on the south and including the town of Drumheller.
Submissions will be judged on originality, content, and performance quality. Performances can be in any configuration from solo to ensembles with no more than 6 members. The contest is open to all genres of music, and all ages of performers. Entrants under the age of 18 must have parental consent.
Submissions will be accepted for acoustic and electric acts and must include at least 3 original songs. Deadline for submissions is midnight March 2, 2012 in your choice of the following methods:
- A compact disc mailed to CMFS Talent Contest, Box 21117 Bower Place, Red Deer, AB T4R 2M1
- In mp3 format emailed to talentcontest@centralmusicfest.com.
- We need your name, address, age, phone number and email address as well as any promotional material you want to include or link to in your submission.
- A non-refundable application fee of $10.50 (GST included) must accompany all submissions. Payment can be made either by cheque with mailed-in submissions or by PayPal at http://centralmusicfest.com/ for emailed submissions.
- We thank all applicants in advance for their participation. We will not return any material you send us.
An independent panel will evaluate all submissions. Musicians selected for the contest final will be notified no later than March 9.
The talent contest finals will be held at The Hub, 4936 Ross St., Red Deer on March 22 (acoustic) & March 23 (electric). Six acts will be selected to perform a 15-minute set before a live audience. A jury of music professionals will select a winner.
The Prizes
- Winners in each category will perform three songs as openers at our annual April Fools Fundraiser on March 31, 2012. Each performer +1 will be our guest at the Fundraiser.
- Talent Contest Winners will receive a $200 performance fee for their 30-minute festival show. Winners also receive All Access Badges for themselves and Weekend Passes for 1 guest per musician.
- All Talent Contest Finalists will receive Weekend Passes to the 2012 Central Music Festival.
Please note that all Passes awarded are promotional perks that have no redeemable cash value.
All Access Badges allow you backstage. There is no backstage access with Weekend Passes.
About Us
The non-profit, all volunteer Central Music Festival Society presents a family-oriented weekend of outdoor entertainment and activities every August in a beautiful natural amphitheater just a few kilometers north of Red Deer. You can camp and enjoy great music as well as a variety of food and beverages as you browse through the wares offered by local vendors on site. The Kids Korner features children’s entertainment and activities. Weekend Passes have special rates for students, seniors, and families. Children under 13 are admitted free when accompanied by a responsible adult with a paid admission.
